Small Budget Movie Becomes A Smashing Hit; ‘The Kerala Story’ Collects A Whopping 8.3 Crores On Its Opening Day.

The Adah Sharma-starring film “The Kerala Story” received a big applause in the opening week. The film is among the top five openers of the year.

The Kerala Story, which became engulfed in controversy, has brought in more than 8 crore  on the opening day. Written and directed by Sudipto Sen, the movie has released in theatres on Friday. Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Siddhi Idnani, and Sonia Balani play the main characters in The Kerala Story.

The Kerala Story, according to its filmmakers reveals the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of 32,000 women from Kerala who were later converted and sent on terror missions. Sunshine Pictures Private Limited, which Vipul Amrutlal Shah founded and who also serves as the movie’s producer, creative director, and co-writer, is the company that supports The Kerala Story.

Taking to Twitter on Saturday, film analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, “#TheKeralaStory hits the ball out of the stadium… Takes a SMASHING START… Evening + night shows witness solid occupancy… The Day 1 numbers are an EYE-OPENER for the entire industry… TERRIFIC weekend assured… Fri ₹ 8.03 cr. #India biz. #Boxoffice.”

Adah Sharma’s New Film ‘The Kerala Story’ Trailer Out, Makers Promise A Spine-Chilling And Never Before Told Story.

The movie’s trailer drew criticism because it claimed that 32,000 state-born females vanished and eventually joined the terrorist organization ISIS. The Kerala Story came up for debate because of the inflated numbers in the movie’s trailer. The Kerala High Court noted on Friday that the movie’s creators had published a disclaimer along with it that expressly states that the movie is a dramatized and fictionalized interpretation of true events and makes no claims as to their truth or veracity.

The Kerala Story is one of the top five opening weekends of 2023 thus far in terms of box office earnings. Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, which earned Rs 55 crore, is at the top of the list, followed by Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, Rs 15.81 crore, Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, Rs 15.7 crore, and Rs 11.2 crore for Bholaa. On its opening day, The Kerala Story performed better than Akshay Kumar’s Selfiee (Rs 2.55 crore), Kartik Aaryan’s Shehzada (Rs 6 crore), and The Kashmir Files (Rs 3.5 crore).
